What should you look for in partners
"Opposites attract" or "birds of a feather flock together"? It's actually both!
Similarity
We tend to surround ourselves with friends and seek out romantic partners who share our beliefs and characteristics that are core parts of our identities. For partners, this can refer to the desire to start a family, political perspectives, financial planning, similar lifestyles and life directions. An extreme example: let's just say that a gay person most likely won't date someone who thinks gay people will end up in hell.
Complementary
When we say we like people that are opposite of us, we mean people with traits/characteristics that complement our own. This is seen with memes about couples that are golden retriever (extroverted, affectionate)/black cat (introverted, calm), sunshine/grumpy, etc.
Ultimately, we are usually attracted to people who are more similar than different than us. I hope this guides you in what to look for in potential partners!
The Survey
The results are interesting, as expected of my friends. Here are some of the pairings in which they complement each other well.
